Brother P-Touch Labeler {review & giveaway}

For an organizing junkie like me, a labeler is a key piece of equipment in the organizing process. I had the opportunity to try out the Brother The P-Touch PT-1100SBVP labeler recently. This labeler is designed primarily for scrapbooking, but you can use it for anything you like. It holds many different sizes of labels. But, what makes this labeler great for scrapbooking is that you can purchase labels in all sorts of different colours – orange, red, blue, white, clear and lots more.

With the labeler I received a cartridge of clear labels and a cartridge of white labels. You can print either one line or two lines. Plus, there are a variety of different font styles to choose from – bold, underlined, mirrored (reverse) italic and a bunch more. The labeller is a little handheld unit that comes in a clear plastic carrying case and does not take up a ton of space. There is extra space for extra cartridges too. In addition to your regular alpha and numeric fonts, there are also over 60 different symbols you can use. If you wish your label to be in French or Spanish, there are the extra letters you need for that. As well, you can add a Halloween pumpkin, a santa, hearts, arrows and more to your label. This, in my opinion is a great extra to your regular small labeler.

It took me a couple of minutes to get the hang of it, but the instructions were very clear and I could figure out what I wanted to do quite quickly. Needless to say, I went on a labeling streak and even my husband’s laptop got a label with his name and number on it.

Whether you want to label your spice jars or use it for your scrapbooking, this is a very handy and easy to use machine. My only recommendation is that if you are going to use it quite frequently, I would recommend picking up the electrical outlet adaptor for $29.99.

Here are the features:

The PT-1100SBVP is a compact, handheld labeler that uses acid-free adhesive labels to help you make captions quickly and neatly for all your scrap booking projects. The PT-1100SBVP also uses the standard Brother Canada “TZ” laminated tapes, which come in a variety of tape colors, tape widths and adhesive types.

· includes two free photo safe tapes: a 12 mm Black on White Acid Free Tape(8M) and a 12mm Black on Clear Acid Free Tape (5M)
· Prints 5 type sizes and 9 types styles
· Prints up to 2 lines of text
· 72 built-in symbols
· Prints up to 12 mm (1/2″) wide.
· Compact design and includes 6 “AAA” alkaline batteries
· Clean cut labels with manual tape cutter.

Changing Diapers Book {review & giveaway}

October 3, 2011 · Posted in Books, Cloth Diapers · 399 Comments

Changing diapers bookI love cloth diapering! But, when I was first looking into it – even though I knew I was going to cloth diaper – I found all the information out there a bit confusing. AIO, insert, doubler, one size, pocket diaper – there were so many to learn about and figure out. There are quite a few excellent resources available online, but it’s nice to be able to pick up a book and learn everything you need to know to get started. Thankfully, a book is now available.

Changing Diapers: A Hip Mom’s Guide to Modern Cloth Diapering has just been published and is the bible of cloth diapering in my opinion. If you are not able to attend a workshop or consultation with your local cloth diaper store, this book is the next best thing. Changing Diapers covers everything from different diaper types, different accessories and helps you plan a cloth diaper stash from the must have items to the really nice to have.

Even though I have been cloth diapering for almost three years, I still learned quite a bit from this book. Changing Diapers is written by industry expert, Kelly Wels, the former owner of diapers.com and Kelly’s Closet (US based cloth diaper stores). Kelly was on the forefront of the cloth diapering movement and with this book she shares a lifetime of knowledge and information.

Whether you are thinking about using cloth diapers, have decided to use them or you are an experienced cloth diaper user, there is something in this book for you. I enjoyed reading this book so much that I’ve added it to my baby shower gift list for those thinking of cloth diapering. It’s priced at $17.95, which is a great price for a gift or yourself. It is available at a number of retailers in the US and Canada.
