So you’re running last minute errands, you have shopping bags or you’re just having a much needed walk and some down time in the park. There’s a certain type of Mom stress involved in having a bored, hungry, (soon to be crying…screaming?), little one in a stroller. The Cheerios are thrown to the ground and you’re picking up the squeaky toy for the 100th time? Not fun.

Many of us know that keeping your little one amused and snack-happy is a major challenge.  Love your Bugaboo? This is pretty much an essential product if you do. The Tray Vous was created by a busy Mom, just like you, to make life with your Bugaboo stroller much easier.What could be easier than a handy little snack, drink and activity tray that snaps into place while maintaining the cool, sleek look of your Bugaboo? Busy Mom Lauren created the Tray Vous with her daughter Peyton in mind and now younger brother Callen is enjoying his too. We love parent created products!

The Tray Vous is super easy to attach and use. Check out these photos and instructions and even download the user manual. Simply detach the stroller carry handle and click the tray into place. Velcro anchoring straps give added stability.  The tray can be used on Bugaboo Frog and Cameleon strollers while preserving the versatility of the handle.

Shop for your Tray Vous online or at these great retailers: Babesta, Dainty Baby, Pacifer and Moms to be and More (Toronto).

Visit Tray Vous on Facebook and check out their great blog for cute photos of this amazing product in action!

Keep Baby Cool & Hydrated this Summer – Playtex – {Review}

Keeping your little ones safe, cool and hydrated in our Canadian, hot summers can be even harder than keeping them warm in the middle of a very Canadian winter. There’s so much to worry about! Harmful sun rays, heat and maybe hardest of all is making sure they’ve had enough to drink. It’s a toasty 36 degrees today in Miss Button’s neighbourhood. Summer may have been a little late arriving to our part of British Columbia but it’s sure here now!

Playtex Infant offers these top four awesome tips:

Dress alike – If you’re feeling hot, chances are your baby is too, so be sure to dress for the weather. Cool cottons and linens are comfortable and let your skin breathe.

Stay out of the sun – The sun is the hottest from 11am to 3pm so avoid going outside at this time. If you do go out on a hot day, ensure your baby is shaded from the sun as best as possible.

 Carry plenty of water – If you run out of water or it becomes too hot to enjoy, pop into a local cafe or restaurant and most will be more than happy to fill your sippy cup with cool water.

Use ice – If it’s a really hot day, try filling one of your sippy cups with ice. By the time your baby is thirsty, most of the ice will have melted, creating a cool and refreshing drink.

I especially love the idea of filling a sippy cup with ice. I had never thought of it.

Playtex have an amazing amount of online resources over at Playtex Baby and Playtex Mommyville. A super cool Mommy Board forum, helpful articles, monthly sweepstakes, as well as tons of advice on Playtex products. You can easily personalize your Mommyville experience to make it very relevant to your own little one, whether they’ve arrived or not.

We love our Playtex sippy cups. An interesting fact is that 88% of Canadian Moms have used a sippy cup! I know it’s an essential part of our gear when we’re out and about.

We would like to thank Playtex for sending us some awsome sippy cups for Miss Button and Mr Bean to try out. We were not compensated for this review.

The Help {review}

August 10, 2011 · Posted in Movies, Reviews · 1 Comment

The Help movieI had the opportunity to watch an advanced screening of Disney’s new movie, The Help. The Help is based upon a novel by the same name that is situated in Jackson, Tennessee in the 1960s at the height of the Civil Rights Movement. As someone who studied this in university, I was quite interested to see how they portrayed this era and the problems that occurred in the South in both the book and the movie. I must say I was pleasantly surprised!

When I read The Help, I devoured it in two days – it is well written, interesting and the characters pull you in – it’s a book I have recommended many times and have given as a few gifts too. I’ll be honest, when I heard that they were making a movie based on the book, I was apprehensive, movies based on books tend not to be anywhere as good as the book. In this case, I was wrong – the movie is every bit as fabulous as the book.

There were even some parts and characters in the movie that I loved even more than the novel. The actors all played their characters extremely well and in my mind the movie characters were seamless with the characters in the novel, they were exactly what I had pictured and acted like when I was reading the novel.

I highly recommend seeing this movie, whether or not you have read the book, you will enjoy every minute of it. Just be prepared to laugh hard and shed an occasional tear.

Official Description:

Based on one of the most talked about books in years and a #1 New York Times best-selling phenomenon,  “The Help” stars Emma Stone (“Easy A”) as Skeeter, Academy Award®–nominated Viola Davis (“Doubt”) as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny—three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s,  who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times.

Master Lock {Review & Giveaway}

We were thrilled to review the Master Lock portable mini safe. This safe is small and light enough that it travels with you, yet has plenty of space for your cell, keys, cards and cash. A tough cable renders it pretty much impossible to steal if you secure it to an immovable object and a combination lock keeps your valuables safe and sound.  It is incredibly easy to use, which is perfect for me! Hate reading instructions? Check out the website for instructional videos.

I really couldn’t recommend it highly enough for camping! Who feels like carting around their wallet, cash or credit cards when you’re supposed to be having fun in the great Canadian outdoors? Leave your most important, small items safely locked up in your … and go have fun. Discreet in white or gray, it won’t attract too much attention either. The mini safe is combination only, which makes perfect sense given that you’ll want to use it for keeping your keys safe when you’re out on the trail.

Mr Button especially loves the safe. It’s great on our little fishing boat; no chance of keys or cell phones slipping out your pocket into the lake. If you decide to port you can lock up, tether your safe to the boat and go on a hike without worrying. Water damage is no problem as the safe is water resistant. Mr Button, the gadget fanatic, also remarked on the high quality and solid construction of the safe! We use Master Lock on our sheds and are super happy with them.

We highly recommend this if you are in any way outdoors: hiking, camping, fishing.  Available in gray or white, the  for $24.99 now at Walmart and Zellers in Canada.

Master Lock are giving away a portable mini safe, model 5900D to one lucky West Coast Mama reader.
