Peekinz Baby {review & giveaway}

March 31, 2011 · Posted in Baby Clothing · 93 Comments

Peekinz BabyWe were delighted to discover Peekinz Baby clothing! Peekinz Baby are 3 sisters, taking their hands on experience as Mamas and applying it to create a beautiful, functional, affordable yet luxurious baby clothing line.

I absolutely love bamboo. It really is the most excellent fabric. Sustainable, naturally wicks away sweat and resists bacteria and is incredibly soft. Bamboo baby clothing is luxurious, soft, gentle and washes extremely well. There is not an item of bamboo clothing Miss Button has owned that I have not loved. Actually, a new fact I picked up from the Peekinz Baby website is that some species of bamboo can grow over a meter in 24 hours.

Have you heard of the Peekinz Pocket? Like it or not, we’ve all been caught out trying to do a diaper peek to see if a change is needed. Rather than pulling on clothing and upsetting an otherwise happy little Button, you can just drop down the pocket and take a quick peek. An idea that, let’s be honest, only a smart Mama could have come up with. Super helpful!

The silk screened designs are sweet and adorable. Miss Button and I checked out a long sleeved Baby Bear long sleeved onesie and the quality was awesome and the silk screening  is perfect. I love the contrasting colour of the stitching. All in all, a very nice boutique quality onesie.

Peekinz Baby also create the cutest Baby Bear Sleepers (we love the colour options and no slip, feet grips), Pants and Hooded Rompers (warning, these are kind of irresistible).
You can have Peekinz Baby clothing shipped directly to your door or visit Peggy Sue’s Boutique in Gibsons, Jack & Lola in North Vancouver and Baby Bahoonie Boutique in Vancouver. Peekinz Baby is made responsibly in Canada.

What a Jewel {review & giveaway}

March 29, 2011 · Posted in Baby Products, Toddler Gear · 149 Comments

What a JewelMiss Button and I were lucky enough to try out a 3 Sprouts Organic Caddy from What a Jewel.

One of the first things that amazed me was the size. It’s small enough for a toddler to carry comfortable, yet wide and roomy enough to hold a whole lot of baby supplies. Miss Button, like all toddlers I know, loves to pack up toys and books and carry them around. We had so much packed up in the tote that I couldn’t believe it. Mr Rabbit, half a dozen books, teeny toys, crayons and some clothes. I think it would be the perfect fit for Miss Button to pack her swimming things next time we head to the pool. There’s also a handy pocket in the back.

Now unlike any other tote I own (and this got me thinking of when Miss Button was a baby), the tote stands up! Baby in one hand, a bunch of supplies in the tote and you can still set it down without everything tipping over. It’s a very clever design. You can also slip your arm through the handle very comfortably thanks to the single, wide handle that goes from front to back.

I love transitional items that you can use with your baby and then keep on using with your toddler. The 3 Sprouts Organic Caddy is super helpful with baby supplies, great first tote for little tots and the contemporary animal designs aren’t anything your little one is going to grow out of fast. Miss Button has the Mouse Caddy and not only is the mouse adorable but it’s made from eco-spun felt that has been created from recycled plastic bottles. The caddy itself is made from organic canvas and the inside is wipe clean polyester. It has a very high quality finish and feels solid and durable.

What a Jewel has a marvelous selection of unique, baby and toddler, boutique style items. If you’re looking for an amazing shower gift or something special for your own little button you must take a look! Another favourite of mine are the Button Nose Blankies. We highly recommend the fabulous 3 Sprouts Caddy!

What a Jewel is based in Toronto. Shop online and avoid the hassle of lining up with little Buttons and Beans. Check out some of their customer comments!

Alphadorable {review & giveaway}

March 17, 2011 · Posted in Nursery Decor · 140 Comments

Alphadorable name signs for kidsAlphadorable created a gorgeous, custom designed wooden name plaque for Miss button’s bedroom. Before becoming a stay at home Mom, the talented artist behind Alphadorable was an interior decorator. She now creates beautiful hand painted wall letters and signs on canvas and wood. I get very excited about custom designed items and like all little buttons, Miss Button adores seeing her name in big, beautiful letters.

The creation of Miss Button’s sign couldn’t have been easier and the results are amazing. All we had to do was take a snapshot from the bedroom, email it, and we received a perfectly coordinating piece of art. This is our sign against the actual photograph that I emailed to Alphadorable and I think the results speak for themselves.
Alphadorable name signs for kids
Fabulous! The sign itself is of exceptionally high quality.The painting is immaculate and yet maintains that gorgeous finish that you just cannot get with a printed item.

You can choose pictures of anything in the bedroom that you would like Alphadorable to work from, including artwork and even borders. In our case I took a photograph of Miss Button’s boldly striped bedding. Miss Button’s bedroom decor is quite simple and consists of mainly bold colour and stripes and her sign matches perfectly. It’s absolutely worth taking a look at Alphadorable’s recent photos and blog to see examples of more intricate designs that can be created, including animals, flowers and characters.

If you feel that you would like to go a step further than sending photographs, and you have a special idea in mind you can contact Alphadorable and work with them to discuss your decor and artwork in more detail and create something wonderful.

You may even decide to order a custom piece for yourself! Alphadorable create artwork for any room in your home. You could even brighten up your own bedroom and decorate the nursery at the same time. I love this handpainted letter on stretched canvas.

Alphadorable were a pleasure to work with and we just love Miss Button’s sign. Would recommend!

Kawaii Diapers {review & giveaway}

March 14, 2011 · Posted in Cloth Diapers · 320 Comments

As many of you know, we are a cloth diapering family and we (really I) love checking out and trying new cloth diapers. We are also trying to stick to a budget, and this is where Kawaii diapers come in! Kawaii cloth diapers are a great eco-friendly option to disposable diapers and are super easy on the wallet.

Kawaii diapers

We had the opportunity to try out the ultra soft one-size cross-over snap pocket diaper in a fun white and blue/brown polka dot design. I like that the majority of their diapers are available in snaps. Snaps are low maintenance and you don’t get the dreaded string of Velcro diapers out of the washer. Plus, no lint to pick out of them either. The Kawaii one size diapers fit from 8-36 pounds and have four rise settings. The snap closure diaper system consists of a waterproof outer layer made from Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) laminated fabric. When I received this diaper I had not heard of TPU, so thankfully their website describes it for us!

TPU is a composition specifically adapted to produce non-porous membranes exhibiting waterproof and water vapor transmissible. It is a high performance, durable, water resistant, cut and tear resistant, and soft fabric. Sounds like super high tech performance diaper to me!

The cover has a pocket opening located in the inner layer to accommodate microfiber inserts. This diaper came with two super Kawaii cloth diapersthick microfiber inserts that fit perfectly. Since mr. bean is getting a little bit closer to potty training, I find the super thick Kawaii insert is perfect for his toddler diaper needs. The microfiber inserts are environmentally friendly too! They are made from 100% unbleached microfiber. I must be honest, I never thought about microfiber being bleached before and now that I know this, I just might replace all my other ones with Kawaii inserts.

This diaper is a one size pocket diaper that fits 8-36 pounds. Mr. bean is tall for his age and lean, so I found the diaper a bit on the big side for him. That being said, we did not have any problems with leaks. However, if your little one is on the petite side, I don’t know how well it would fit in the 8-15 pound range.  I would love to hear from you Kawaii fans that used it on your infants and how you felt about fit. Unlike most one size diapers, which we are slowly getting away from right now, this is one diaper that actually fits in the rise for 23 month old tall mr. bean. Most other one size are becoming low riders on him now.

Given the roomy size and the inexpensive price, I would definitely recommend these diapers to anyone wanting to try out cloth diapering their older babies and young toddlers without spending a ton of money. We’ve only been using it for a few weeks now and it will be interesting to see how it holds up given it’s inexpensive cost, but from the research I’ve done, there doesn’t seem to be too many complaints about quality.

Starfish Kidz {review & giveaway}

March 10, 2011 · Posted in Baby Clothing, Children's Clothing · 101 Comments

Starfish KidsWe were delighted to try out some Starfish Kidz apparel recently and Miss Button and I were very impressed!

Miss Button and I tried out the Tweet Tee and Bamboo Headband and they are both gorgeous. I absolutely love bamboo and Starfish Kidz clothing is no exception. It’s incredibly soft and consists of 70% bamboo and 30% organic cotton. You can see and feel the high quality. Actually you won’t be able to stop touching it; it’s delightfully silky smooth. Perfect for sensitive, baby soft skin! Bamboo also has natural anti-bacterial agents and is a sustainable and environmentally sound resource.Starfish Kidz apparel

The Tweet Tee has a lovely shape and a generous length. It just has that hip tee look! The contemporary bird motif is super cute and finished with a beautiful little bead detail. The headband is soft and comfy and has a dreamy flower attached. Miss Button definitely approved. The stretch and fit of the headband are perfect and it stays put without a problem! Both items certainly have that fabulous boutique look. Starfish Kidz apparel is unique and luxurious enough to make the perfect gift but also affordable enough to make it a regular part of your own little one’s wardrobe.Starfish Kidz have a wide range of amazing bamboo apparel including Beanies (did you know that bamboo wicks away sweat and has some natural defense against UV? Perfect in a hat!), Groovy Bottoms, and even stroller liners (which I really wish I had when Miss Button was a teeny Button; they are fabulous). All the applique designs are simply adorable and Starfish Kidz also accepts requests for customs designs and fabric choices! We loved our Starfish Kidz apparel!

You can have Starfish Kidz apparel delivered to your door or find them at Organically Hatched, The ACT in Maple Ridge, Toots n’ Tots and Kinder Cafe.
