Bubble & Bee Organics {review & giveaway}

October 30, 2010 · Posted in Baby Products, Hair & Body Products, Mama Stuff · 1 Comment

I recently had the opportunity to try a new natural and organic cleanser by Bubble & Bee Organic. Bubble & Bee Organic sent me their Pineapple Enzyme Facial Cleanser. When I opened it up, it reminded me of fruity Hubba Bubba type of gum from my childhood. It smelled so yummy!

The enzymes in the facial cleanser are freshly extracted from organic pineapple and organic papaya to help clear away dead skin cells and buildup, leaving your complexion revitalized and clear. It is made with a gentle castile formula that doesn’t clog pores and is free from synthetic detergents, preservatives, fragrance and fillers that commonly irritate skin.

Not only is it so fresh and yummy smelling, and doesn’t clog pores, they also don’t add any “Bad” stuff to their products. There is nothing in it that you can’t pronounce.

What did I think? The first few days of using it I broke out a little bit, nothing major, but this was due to the cleanser clearing away the dead skin cells and buildup. Once that was over with, wow! My skin looked so clear! I did find it a little drying on my very dry skin, but it never got stinging dry as some of the more commercial products can make it. I would recommend this one to someone with normal to oily skin.

Not only does Bubble & Bee make great organic products, but they also focus on educating the public. On their site and blog there is tons of information about different chemicals normally found in various bath products and they have a whole section on deodorants too! When I read through that, I had no idea how unhealthy my big name brand deodorant was. They even have something called Chemical of the Day Blog to help educate consumers.

Bubble & Bee Organic is a certified organic processing facility, certified by the Utah State Department of Agriculture and Food. Nice!

Want to buy your own Bubble & Bee Organic products? You can shop online or for those of you close to Bountiful, Utah you can stop in to their store and shop in person! Their products are also available in a number of stores across the U.S.

We would like to thank Bubble & Bee Organics for sending us the Pineapple Enzyme Cleaner. We were not compensated for reviewing this product and my opinions are my own.

Elephoto {review}

October 27, 2010 · Posted in Baby Products, Family Activities, Photography · 10 Comments

I’ll be honest, right up front, I am not crafty or creative in any way. I do not have a single creative, crafty bone in my body. I try, I dream, I buy the stuff, but I can never figure “craftiness” out. One thing that is nice about having a blog and doing product reviews is that it gives me an opportunity to try stuff that I normally would not try and allows me to spread my wings so to speak. So when I had the opportunity to try out the Elephoto Personalized Photo Book system online, I was nervous yet excited.

Elephoto is 100% Canadian owned and operated company who provides digital printed photo books. I had seen digital books and calendars over the last couple of years, but I had never tried it out myself. I was surprised at how easy the Elephoto system was! I created an account, then picked my project. I went with the 11×8.5 inch leather bound landscape photo book. They have quite a few different books sizes, so if a photo book is what you’re looking for, you’ll find the perfect size. They even have calendars, cards and posters too!

There are tons of templates available, which is perfect for the non-creative. I went with the Robots template for my photo book. Now this is where it gets fun! You load your pictures (super easy with a Macbook) and you can do some basic editing within the system, you can add quotes, you can choose your fonts. It’s so easy! I had no idea how much fun I was having until my husband went out and came back three hours later and I was still working on it. I just had so much fun picking photos and putting them in themes for the book. I can see doing one of these every year for mr. bean. And, once your photos are loaded, they are in the Elephoto system. Perfect if you want to go and then design a calendar — perfect Christmas gift idea for the grandparents who have everything :)

When I received my photo book, in about a week from when I finished it, I was impressed with the quality! The leather cover is super nice and the printing inside is quite nice too. The paper is good quality and it looks like it will last quite a while. mr. bean loves it to. Almost every day we sit together and look through the photos. The photo book reminds me how nice it is to sit and look through an album, instead of just loading pictures on a computer and never looking at them.

Want to design your own photo book or get a start on some Christmas calendars? Elephoto is giving West Coast Mama readers a 15% discount (one use per person) and it’s valid until December 15th! Use code “westcoastmama” when you’re checking out to get the discount!

Ddrops {review & giveaway}

October 25, 2010 · Posted in Baby Products · 1 Comment

With cold season in full force, what can we do to help keep all members of our family healthy and to help them fight off the evil cold bug? Vitamin D drops. I recently had the opportunity to try out Ddrops. A good friend of mine has been telling me for quite a while (probably a couple of years to be honest) to take Vitamin D. Why you ask? I catch each and every cold that I encounter. When mr. bean was a newborn, I got a cold – he did not. My son and husband pretty much never get sick. I on the other hand, get sick non stop. It’s really tiring getting every cold under the sun.

So when I had the opportunity to try the Ddrops, I thought, “hmmm, why not? Can’t hurt anything.” Well, when the package arrived, I was surprised to see three different types of Vitamin D drops. I had heard of Vitamin D drops for breastfed babies, but I had no idea there were drops for kids and adults. Each formulated a little differently.

I broke open the box of Kids Ddrops for mr. bean and the adult ones for me. I must mention that at this time of box opening, mr. west coast dad was on his way back from a business trip with a cold. It was too late for him to be saved :) I started taking one drop every morning, and gave one drop every morning to mr. bean. Even when miss button was visiting, she got a drop every morning too. I have this whole “Vitamin D is for me” sing-song-y thing I do with mr. bean. He loves any sort of singing, and I make little songs of everything. Anyway, now he sings the Vitamin D song too.

So what happened? West coast dad was sick for almost 4 weeks. FOUR WEEKS!! I did not get the first cold or the second cold that hit him two weeks after the first one started. I was not even sick for 5 minutes. This is completely unheard of. Friends and family members were shocked. I am ALWAYS the one who gets sick and I stay sick long after everyone gets better. And mr. bean? He eventually caught the cold, but it only last 3 days. Not 4 weeks, not even one full week. I was impressed. I happened to mention this to someone at work and she told me she’s been taking vitamin d drops for years and can’t remember the last time she’s had  a cold and she credits vitamin d for that. This little vitamin drop is amazing!

Want to learn all the scientific data behind vitamin d? You can check it out here. Vitamin D Ddrops are available at a number of retailers, including your local health food store. They are available in 60 doses (400IU) for kids or 180 (1000IU) for adults and they even come in a family size of 360 doses. I will be picking up the family size when I need to restock!

We would like to thank Ddrops for sending us the selection of Vitamin Ddrops. We were not compensated for reviewing this product and my opinions are my own.

Giving Gifts {review & giveaway}

October 22, 2010 · Posted in Kid Gear, School, Toddler Gear · 2 Comments
Have you seen the very cool (and dishwasher safe) Yubo Lunchboxes? Yubo Lunchboxes are the newest and coolest lunchboxes available and you can find them at Vancouver’s own Giving Gifts.

The Deluxe Yubo lunchbox includes your choice of faceplate set and there are so many to choose from! For the girly girl in your life, you can choose a pink lunchbox and then the faceplate of your choice: Cupcakes, Candy, and Fairy Princess are just a few of the choices! For boys, Dinosaurs, Pirates or Skaters are just a few you can select from and put on a blue lunchbox. And for those that prefer a more gender neutral look (or want to pass on the lunchbox to a younger sibling), you can pick an orange one with either an ABC or a Nature faceplate!

We had the opportunity to check out the boys Fire Truck Dog lunchbox. mr. bean loves “nee naws,” so anything fire truck related is a winner at our house. And for those of you wondering about “nee naw,” it’s because that is how he translates the sound fire trucks make.

When I unpacked the Yubo Lunchbox, mr. bean was in love! He had a little bit of difficulty getting it open, but he is only 18 months old so that’s par for the course. I had my friend’s three year old try it, and he had no problem. The Yubo Deluxe Lunchbox comes with two small round containers, one large sandwich container and an ice pack to keep everything cold. We’ve used it a number of times for daycare and we have no problems fitting everything, except his drink, in. For his drink, we use the drink holder that attaches to the outside.

When it’s not being used for lunch, it holds mr. beans car collection. Thanks to his pop-pop (Grandpa), mr. bean is amassing quite the Hot Wheels collection. He loves to put his cars in and slides the handle up his arm and proceeds to say “ok, bye” and walk over to the gate at the top of the stairs. As far as he is concerned, he’s on his way out. Took me a few minutes to realize I do that every single time I leave the house.

What else makes the Deluxe Yubo Lunchbox so great? It is BPA-free and 100% recyclable (yay!). Not only that, by using a reusable container, you’re cutting down on the amount of lunch packing you do use. And to make your life even easier, the lunchbox, minus the faceplates, is 100% top rack dishwasher safe. As for the faceplates, they are tear resistant, so they last a long time.

What else is cool about the Yubo’s? Customized faceplates! That’s right, you can get your faceplate customized with your child’s name on it.

Before I forget, Giving Gifts isn’t just about selling great gear, they make a donation for every purchase you make to Carli’s Kids and Abetavu Children’s Village in Uganda.

We would like to thank Giving Gifts for sending us the Deluxe Yubo Lunchbox. We were not compensated for reviewing this product and my opinions are my own.

Wonder Bumpers {review}

October 19, 2010 · Posted in Baby Products, Toddler Gear · 8 Comments

One of the many things you do when you find out you’re pregnant is to start looking at baby gear, such as crib sets. Crib bumpers, over the years, have received a lot of attention, some good and some bad. The traditional pillow type of bumpers have been linked to babies suffocating. However, the last thing you want as a new Mom is to see your little one bang their head against the crib slats and have a little bruise on their precious little heads. Enter Wonder Bumpers.

Wonder Bumpers are a very creative and safe solution to the traditional pillow style crib bumper. Wonder Bumpers wrap each crib slat vertically with a cushioned bumper. Why use vertical crib bumpers?

  • increases airflow, decreases chance of SIDS
  • protects baby’s head
  • babies cannot climb on them.

We had the opportunity to try out the Wonder Bumpers in the Rainbow Love pattern — perfect for gender neutral or if you love bright colours like I do. The Wonder Bumpers are available on their own in either a 24 or 38 pack, or as a set with a fitted sheet, crib skirt, and toddler blanket. If you need just a couple more bumper covers (I needed 42), you can buy extra’s in sets of two. All the patterns are also reversible, so you can mix it up however you like.

The Wonder Bumpers were so easy to put on! They zipper on (reversible zipper to make it not so easy for little ones to take off) and the zipper is completely concealed. No more ties, which means no loose strings for your little one to get caught in. Plus, since each slat has it’s own bumper, if you need to wash them, you only need to wash the ones you need to, not the entire bumper.

Check out these other really cute patterns:

Want to buy your own set of Wonder Bumpers? They are available on the Go Mama Go Designs website or at a number of retailers.
