iQ: The Smarter Cleaner

I’ll be honest right up front, I’m a pre-made cleaning solution type of girl. I love the cleaners of my childhood *gasp*. I know, I know. My husband on the other hand gives me %*&# every single time he unloads the groceries and he eyes another bottle of some lemon scented, chemical-laden bottle of cleaner. He makes his own cleaning solution.

So when the opportunity came up to try out a new eco-friendly, non-toxic and sustainable cleaner, I was excited. I actually think my husband was more excited. He has been looking for a new product for me to use. Yes, it was time to change my preferred cleaning product.

iQ: The Smarter Cleaner is definitely a smarter cleaner. The makers of iQ, the Planet People, use what they call REFill Technology to Reduce Environmental Footprint. The idea behind this product is that you get the spray container and the gel-like cartridges and you use tap water to mix it all. When you’re out of solution, just refill the bottle, add a cartridge and shake. That’s it. The iQ system is less waste, fewer trucks on the road and a smaller carbon footprint.

Not only are these products better for the environment, you save money too. Because you are not replacing the bottle, only purchasing new cartridges, you save about 25% off the cost of traditional cleaning products. Over the course of a year that’s a lot of money.

Oh, did I mention that iQ products are also non-toxic? They are safe for your family and have never been tested on animals. I really like that. Traditional cleaners can’t say that. And now that I have a toddler, I definitely pay more attention to the type of cleaners I use now.

We received our starter kit of iQ cleaners last week. The kit included a Bathroom Cleaner (Nectarine Plum), All-Purpose Cleaner (Green Tea), and a Multi-Surface Floor Cleaner (Papaya Mango). Normally I avoid scented anything, but these scents are nice! Not overpowering, just a little hint of the scent. They are perfect.

I tried out the All-Purpose Cleaner on my kitchen counters and stove top. It worked just as well as traditional cleaners and even cut the grease on my hood range far better than what a traditional cleaner would. I then decided to try it on my glass kitchen table. I was expecting streaks because I have never had success with anything other than window cleaner. Boy was I wrong! My table is clean and beautifully streak free.

A huge plus was that I didn’t have to wait until my little guy was napping or out of the house to clean because of the fumes from traditional products. With these natural products, I had no worries.

To fully test the products I unleashed the Bathroom Cleaner on my master bathroom. Not sure how to say this, but you know that one room in your house that never ends up being cleaned because you are too busy attempting to keep the rest of the house clean? Yes, our master bathroom is that room. No one other than us go in there. I would post a before picture but I’m too embarrassed. It was that bad.

Since the bathroom cleaning usually falls to my husband, I volunteered him to try out the Bathroom Cleaner (in the spirit of everyone tests everything — ha ha ha!). He was in there a while. Quite a while. Keep in mind it was a very dirty bathroom. Finally he emerged, sweaty and dirt smeared across his cheek. I asked him how it went. I was worried. I went in and I was shocked. My bathroom sparkled! When I asked his thoughts on the Bathroom Cleaner, he said that is cleans just as well as other spray type cleaners. He did note that the Floor Cleaner dried rather slippery and that he would have to go back in and rinse the floor. Normally we wouldn’t bother but with a new walker (as of two weeks ago), we don’t need to encourage an extra bumps and bruises.

What I love about these products are the re-usability of the bottles, the natural non-toxic ingredients and the fact that I save a bit of money each time. What my husband loves about them is that they are all-natural, they have broken his wife’s addiction to traditional cleaners and that the sprayer tube reaches all the way to the bottom of the bottle so that every last bit of cleaner can be used.
